My road to teaching has been long and circuitous. I was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and have lived and worked all over the Pacific Northwest, Nevada and Central California. For the past 30 years I have been blessed to participate in and be called on to teach ceremonial, traditional and social song, drumming, dance and culture in my American Indian/Indigenous Peoples community and in an association known as Teocalli En Aztlan. I have been honored to be taught, and in turn teach songs and drumming in Oglala Lakota, Anishinabe’eg, Cherokee and Nahuatl languages. I came to Franklin-McKinley District in 2000 and I have enjoyed teaching here at Santee since 2012. I have been teaching second grade in room 12 since 2016. The children and families of Santee Elementary are the greatest in the whole world. I currently live with my wonderful wife Jane and my dog Krystal in Gilroy, California.
