I was born to two Mexican immigrants and grew up in Orange County. As a student, I struggled to find connections with people that understood and looked like me, especially because I was in a predominantly Caucasian community. In high school, I spent most of my time working to support my family, and it wasn't until I was given the chance to go to community college that I saw people that I bonded with. These new friends encouraged me to further my education - I went on to obtain a teaching credential and B.A. in Humanities, and later an M.A. in Educational Administration from San Jose State University. The person who inspired me the most on my path was my high school English teacher who pushed me and others to follow our dreams and taught us that anything's possible. I hope to do the same for my students and also hope that they always feel a sense of belonging.
